Hiroo again!
Shopping without language is much harder than I thought. I will find out In the morning if the carton of liquid I purchased is intended for my coffee or for fertilizing plants. The back of the carton had a drawing of something heinous being done to a four legged animal.
I cannot make heads or tails of the Kanji symbols all over everything here. It is no easier when choosing a place to eat. The restaurant street easels look more like Picasso's paintings than lists of entrees. The restaurant names are worth mentioning...in the areas surrounding our home the establishment names are chosen to sound familiar or appealing to Americans. Not always a perfect system....unless you always wanted to eat something from a 4-star Derrière.
Stairways are dangerous too. In a country with left side driving, there are also left side rules for walking and for stairways. Combine that with being late to catch the subway, and you will understand that it is not really my fault that I turned a corner too fast and sent someone's grandmother airborne.
Someone send me some Splenda....
